AmTrykes (est. 1989)
The AmTryke, a therapy tricycle that provides mobility and therapy for children and adults with disabilities, was originated and developed by our Longview AMBUCS chapter in 1989!
Roughly 200 units were produced individually by members of our local club for children throughout the East Texas area. In 1993, our chapter took the project to National AMBUCS, Inc. who adopted the AmTryke as a pet project the following year. Professionally manufactured AmTrykes were soon being purchased and distributed by AMBUCS clubs throughout the United States.
Since those humble beginnings, more than 16,000 AmTrykes have been given away by AMBUCS chapters nationwide. Models have been developed for children and adults of all ages with adaptations to fit a variety of special physical needs.
